Officially called Alappuzha, Alleppey is the picture-perfect place known for its beautiful backwaters and houseboats offering overnight stays. Located close to Kochi in Kerala, its palm-fringed interconnected network of canal backwaters attracts tourists worldwide. Coupled with Munnar and Thekkady, Alleppey is often considered for honeymoon or family vacation. Plenty of houseboats, homestays, and rejuvenating Ayurvedic resorts make staying brilliant. The houseboats pass through serene backwaters where you catch glimpses of green paddy fields, coir-making activities, and local Kerala life. The coastline offers some of the best beaches with water sports during dry season. Be sure to catch a traditional snake boat race in August-September and try toddy (palm wine) at a local toddy shop for authentic Alleppey experience.
