Popular among honeymooners, Munnar is a hill station in Kerala's Idukki district lying in the Western Ghats at 1,600m — one of the most sought-after travel destinations globally. Munnar is famous for its tea estates, greenery, and blankets of mist forming natural viewpoints. Divided into Old Munnar (tourist office) and Munnar (bus station, guest houses), its major attractions include Eravikulam National ParkEravikulam National Park, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, and sprawling tea plantations. Munnar is home to the rare Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once in 12 years (next bloom: 2030) and the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Once the British summer resort, the main reason to visit is exploring tea plantations that look like a blanket of green. It is also ideal for trekking, camping, paragliding, and boating. Munnar is often visited along with Alleppey and Thekkady. It is a haven for shopping for tea and spices — cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, coffee, and homemade chocolates from shops spread across the hill town.
