Amarnath in J&K is one of India's most important pilgrimages for Lord Shiva worshippers. The cave enshrines a Shivaling formed naturally with ice resembling Lord Shiva. Millions visit annually for the challenging Amarnath Yatra trek. Legend says this is where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of life and eternity to Goddess Parvati. The cave is accessible only during Sharavan months (July-August). Two routes exist — Baltal (shorter but steeper) and Pahalgam (longer, preferred by most). It usually takes 3-5 days from base. Helicopter services are now available on both routes. Advance booking and registration are required.
