About Kaziranga National Park

Home to the largest population of the one-horned rhino on earth, Kaziranga National Park is one of India's national treasures. Located in Assam, approximately five hours from Guwahati, it stands as the epitome of successful wildlife conservation. Awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1985, the park lies on the floodplains of the mighty Brahmaputra River with rich vegetation — tall elephant grass, marshlands, and tropical broadleaf forests. A wide variety of fauna thrives including one-horned rhinos, Asiatic elephants, wild water buffalo, leopards, and Royal Bengal Tigers. Kaziranga is officially a Tiger reserve with one of the world's largest tiger populations. Various migratory birds from the north can be spotted — black-nested stork, lesser white-fronted goose, ferruginous duck, great Indian hornbill, and wreathed hornbill. Safaris are available day and night during the open season. Elephant rides are popular among tourists and wildlife journalists. Hiking is prohibited for safety.
